Sour, tart, crunchy and pungent green mango with spicy, sweet, salty and sourish sauce – an explosion in your mouth.
Being a fruit fiend, I would feel strange if I don’t get my daily dose of fruits. Though I can’t quite remember how I got through a whole month without fruits during my candida detox 3 years ago. At the beginning of my recent Europe trip, I was totally ecstatic with the abundance summer fruits. However towards the end of the 2 months, I can hardly believe I had an overdose of the luscious summer berries and stone fruits. Day after day at the fruit stall or grocer, the options are mostly cherries, berries, plums, peaches, nectarines and grapes. I remember saying out loud one day: “Oh no, strawberries again”. Finger-licking braised chicken in sesame oil, rice wine and soy sauce with Thai basil
I’ve returned from my long vacation, gleeful to find my edible plants have thrived under CM’s (my elder sis) care. She’s indeed a great plant-sitter this time, and she seemed to have developed a fondness for them from the way she speaks about them. Yay! Another happy plant mama in the making. 🙂 Continue Reading →
Baked Salmon Packets – a no-fuss, super easy salmon & vegetables dish, that’s gently steamed for a tender and flavorful salmon.
Sometimes I come across people who remind me of how I used to be. Recently I came across someone who said she likes cooking but she’s a lazy cook, coupled with a picky husband and daughter. Her cooking for her family involves heating up pre-cooked food from the supermarket. Frozen croquettes, meatballs, pizza, potato salad, pasta and pies. For a moment, I was saddened. Then I recalled I was like that too, years ago. After a long day at work, it was much easier to heat up pre-cooked food just to fill my hungry tummy. Continue Reading →
Caramelised grilled plantain with a dab of butter & brown sugar. So easy & DAMN DELICIOUS
The first time I tasted the delicious plantain was in a Suriname shop in Rotterdam, The Netherlands (or commonly known as Holland). Bakabana is the Surinamese version of fried banana, but with plantain dipped in batter and fried, and some places serve it with spicy peanut sauce. As part of South America was under the Dutch colonization, the Dutch, too, brought other colonies (Indonesian & East Indian) influences to Suriname during the colonization years. That explains the Indonesian style peanut sauce with the plantain. Continue Reading →
Tender falling-apart Chicken Adobo in a tangy, vinegary garlic sauce. The quintessential dish of the Philippines.
If April Bloomfield (chef and co-owner of 3 Michelin starred restaurants) deemed Filipino adobo worthy to be included in her “A Girl and Her Pig” cookbook, then you must definitely give adobo a try. At least once. Adobo, a tangy, salty dish of stewed meat in soy sauce and vinegar, is ‘the’ quintessential dish of the Philippines. Some even name it the unofficial national dish. Continue Reading →

Healthy, refreshing and delicious Vietnamese Shrimp Rolls with Peanut Hoisin Sauce
I love serving Vietnamese rolls, DIY style with family or when friends come over. It makes a fun social dining activity. Unfortunately rolling their own food was not some people’s idea of fun when I serve them at a bloggers potluck 2 months back. Upon request, I rolled 12 of them leisurely while waiting for the rest to arrive. Continue Reading →
Amazing Korean salad bowl without the carbs, rock your favourite salad ingredients with spicy Gochujang paste – perfect for weekday lunch.
I’m pretty obsessed with Korean food, especially Gochujang paste. I love to use the paste to season meat or fried rice. Bibimbap (Korean rice bowl with gochujang) is on my weekday lunch menu almost every other week, usually with raw veggies. Some days it’s just No-Rice Bibimbap Bowl, which makes it an amazing spicy salad bowl.
